![]() ![]() 2 months late, but if they started a kickstarter targeting 2012 players, they could easily raise enough funds to hire developers to make the final missions, tier 4 clockworks, and (depending on the success of the kickstarter) could at least start development on spiral knights 2.Spiral Knights is a massive online RPG developed by Three Rings Design. Not only because they could get enough funds, but also send the message that this IP isn't dead. Maybe they can make a Kickstarter or make a tweet to see if people would like that. Originally posted by A Trap:A new game sounds cool. I'd like if Monomi Park bought the rights, look how well they did with Slime Rancher. there are still plenty of fans, including me, who would support SK on Kickstarter There are many ways to change the gameplay while still being SK (could even do a new genre, rogue-lite or roguelike would be a very good compliment to the SK style), plus there is an opportunity to be funded through Kickstarter. people want to play something new and 10 years of exploring Arcade isn't much to run on. needs a rehaul alongside a re-release to get new players, there's no reason to dump effort into a game with such low numbers. Not much incentive to fix it, it's too old. Originally posted by Shamanalah:How long have you followed SK development? This game just doesn't have enough of an economy or a microtransactions system to justify blowing that kind of cash. Most people buy $10 of energy here, a few costume boxes there, some get a starter pack, some get Crimson Hammer, but as far as I can tell, there are no players just laying down wads of cash for millions of energy. It's not WWE Champions, where people are dropping $1000 at a time to be 1st in a new event, guarantee themselves the new roster character and max it out immediately. This isn't a game that really caters to whales though. We keep it alive and ofcourse the whales. The community is strong, there is some lovely people but thats about that. But for now, GH is free money and also a museum thats it nothing less nothing more. This game needs something big to get back into it's former glory. Then they would need some way to advertise it, and I'm more than sure they don't have that kinda money. If they would want to make anything with it, they would need to do a loot of work with it to make a really big update. Originally posted by Álmosy:There is no future for the game. If you ask me, a Kickstarter campaign would be the smartest thing to do. People in Kickstarter are willing to fund pretty much everything that looks somewhat promising, so I don't think Grey Havens would have too much problems raising money. If anything, I would rather them take the Epic Games deal, if that's still an option or Microsoft, since they are hurting for some exclusives/studios. Maybe they can make a Kickstarter or make a tweet to see if people would like that.Īs for selling out, the only publishers out buying smaller studios are crap ones like Gameforge or Gamigo who run the games they buy into the ground. Sure you can have a bigger company update the game to fix those issues such as connection stability and further dungeons, but you gotta think of this from a business perspective, why would bigger companies get this game? The cost it would take to fix all these issues versus the profit to come from it all is too wide of a gap to invest into. This game may retain its charm through its aesthetics but the gameplay/design is becoming outdated at this point. I just know the history of the development of SK as I been playing and following it since June 2011.Įdit2: And I'm all aboard with Nick Popovich making SK 2.0 on C++ instead of Java. I doubt you have any idea how the behind the scene works for this type of project and I'll be honest, neither do I. Now they release a promo each month and have brought back sleep status, added casino and style kit. The fact the game is alive is because GH has the rein and they don't push out promos every 2 week like they used to do to pay off SEGA/OOO. It shows there was a split in decision or he wanted to branch off to something new. When he left, a statue was made in his honor at Haven in the garden on the left.Įdit: This was just months prior to the battle sprite, dodge and shield bash update. Nick Popovich left OOO in 2014 to make Slime Rancher. I think you need to inform yourself a bit more. Cronus still does announcement on the forum to this day. ![]() Old member from SK dev are at GH so they keep it alive because of loyalty. OOO originally had the game and was sold to Grey Haven so they could keep it alive. How long have you followed SK development? ![]()
